5 Anti Aging Supplements You Should Know About

P

There are many exciting and promising supplements that work to reduce, minimize, and even reverse the effects of aging. The 5 anti aging supplements I believe you should know about are DHEA, Coenzyme Q10, Fish Oil, Green Tea, and something called GPC. Why? Because these supplements have been shown to actually be beneficial and not just the latest fad.

DHEA

DHEA has become popular over the years for its anti aging properties ever since the news media picked up in 1996. It is a hormone that acts as a precursor to other important hormones relevant to aging, such as estrogen and testosterone. DHEA should be considered as a strong candidate for daily supplementation.

Coenzyme Q10

Coenzyme Q10, or just Q10, helps regulate the cells in the body but we naturally produce less and less as we age. Because of this, it is seen as a powerful tool in keeping cells healthy when taken as supplement past the age of 40.

Fish Oil

You probably didn’t expect to see fish oil on this list, but what we’re interested in isn’t the fish part of things, but the “good” fat that we get along with it! If you’ve heard about the need for omega fatty acids, this is what they’re talking about. They’re necessary to keep the brain going strong and keeping emotions balanced. This is important in fighting the memory loss and brain function that comes along with old age.

Green Tea Extract

Taking an extract of concentrated green tea gives the body a powerful boost in important antioxidants. The antioxidants from green tea, polyphenols along with it’s more well known cousin, flavonols, help keep cells healthy and might fight against any damage the free radicals might do in the body.

GPC

The inner workings of GPS is rather technical so it will suffice to say only that it helps against memory loss and because of that is an important tool against aging.

While other approaches may be successful, such as the use of electromagnetic therapy to promote increased vitality and overall energy levels, the 5 supplements above have been tested and proven their worth in research studies. I believe this makes them the best candidates to start with if you’re interesting in living a long, healthy life!

A List of the Best Foods High in Iron

Quite often people with iron deficiencies have no idea what the problem is. The main symptom associated with anemia is general fatigue, and sometimes it can get bad enough that you feel extremely tired in the middle of the day. It can interfere with job performance in addition to affecting other areas of your life with increased stress and difficulties with concentration. Of course when people feel tired, the most obvious solution they pursue is to get more sleep. But in this case, it’s not going to fix the situation because that’s not the root of the problem. Iron deficiency needs to be addressed with improvements in your diet, and in most cases it’s best to do that with natural foods rather than with supplements. Here is a quick list of some of the best foods high in iron that can be adapted into your everyday diet quite easily.

Dry herbs – this is a great category of iron rich foods because they add so much flavor to your pre-existing dishes. What could be simpler than sprinkling dried oregano, thyme, parsley, basil, or even black pepper into a dish? It makes it even tastier and as a whole new dimension to your favorite food while giving you a quick boost of iron.

Dried fruits – things like apricots, prunes, and even raisins can make a wonderful snack in dried form. If you are the type of person who chooses high cholesterol foods when it comes to snacking, try changing things up by making your own trail mix complete with healthy nuts and dried fruits.

Iron-filled cereal – breakfast will always be the most important meal of the day, and you can give yourself a double dose of iron and fiber if you pick the right serial. A great iron enriched cereal complete with other nutrients will give you a quick boost of energy and get you started with your day on the right foot.

Dark leafy greens – every great meal needs side dishes and if you happen to need iron as well, there’s no better choice than dark leafy greens such as spinach, kale, or even collard greens. Broccoli will also do the job quite nicely as it also has antioxidant properties to help you with other areas as well.

Shellfish – this addition to the list comes as a surprise to most people since you don’t usually associate mussels, clams, and oysters with iron. But rest assured they are a good source and something that you can incorporate every once in a while as a nice treat. You can use these elements quite creatively in anything ranging from sauces to soups to stew.

Beans – beans are definitely an acquired taste but they are making something of a comeback thanks to better eating these days. You can find creative ways to use them quite easily and there are plenty of opportunities to combine them with other fresh vegetables to give you a nice dose of health.

Red meat – when most people think of foods high in iron, the one that comes up the most is red meat. Of course there are possible complications since you should not be eating red meat every day of the week. But with moderation and a careful eye on how you prepare it, there’s no reason why you can’t enjoy red meat dishes with healthy sides. Remember, with good choices you never have to eliminate a particular category of food completely, especially when it comes to something that has other nutritional benefits.

Good Brain Foods

Food and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder
The brain is at the center of all our functions. When at its best, we perform tasks at our greatest potential. As such, providing the brain with the best nutrition is important, especially in those suffering from Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder. Many of the ADHD Remedies recommend supplementation and dietary modifications to include sources of needed nutrients that are essential for mental functioning. Enjoying good brain foods can help any person suffering from ADD to have the best management of the condition.

Blueberries are given much attention when speaking about brain food. Several studies have shown their remarkable effects on the brain. Components in blueberries enhance memory and cognitive skills and the antioxidants within are also a major bonus when considering general wellness.

Whole grain food products also possess several B complex vitamins that are important in maintaining optimal mental functioning. Additionally, whole grain is also filled with healthy fiber that promotes good digestion and elimination.

Flaxseeds and certain fish are rich in omega 3 fatty acids. These are especially helpful in maintaining the integrity of the nervous system. Flaxseeds can also be used in many dessert recipes which make them quite indispensible. Similarly, fish oils are also available and these are also known to be great sources of omega 3s.

Another great vitamin that should be considered when thinking about good brain foods is vitamin E. Its properties in maintaining tissues as well as its memory boosting abilities make vitamin E a must in the diet. Nuts and green leafy veggies are only some of the rich sources of Vitamin E.

Eggs are also quite rich in many important nutrients. Apart from the protein and fat that help in providing energy and promoting mental focus, eggs also contain choline. Sufficient choline in the system is known to boost memory.
It helps to know exactly which nutrients our brains need, and it make the trip down the grocery aisle much easier when shopping for the right products. As always, natural sources, when available, are the best alternatives when considering food.

Four Benefits of Vitamin D

As time goes by medical science is making great strides in finding new benefits of common vitamins and minerals.  Because of this you can use Vitamin supplements to greatly improve your health whether your ailment is Vitamin D deficiency and depression or high cholesterol, you may be well served by checking out your local vitamin store.  Here are a few ways that you can use Vitamin D to bring you to a state of health:

  1. Cold and Flu season is upon us; did you know that Vitamin D is known to help your body fight the common cold and other viral infections that will make your winter miserable?  Recent studies show that immune systems are strengthened by introducing additional Vitamin D to your body.
  2. During times of diminished daylight people have been known to show signs of seasonal depression.  If you have a Vitamin D deficiency and depression is sure to follow.  This has become so common that more and more people are being treated for it.  These treatments often include devices that mimic the effects of sunlight which will increase your body’s natural response to create Vitamin D.
  3. Number three is the probably the most common:  healthy bones.  Vitamin D is a key component in your body’s intake of other important vitamins and minerals, one of which is Calcium.  We all know the important place that Calcium holds in bone health and Vitamin D is what helps you get the most out of it.
  4. Your pancreas loves Vitamin D: the right amount of Vitamin D will allow your pancreas to maintain normal blood sugar levels.  A properly functioning pancreas will secrete the right amount of insulin to keep your sugar levels within an acceptable range.

There are far more than four benefits to an increase in Vitamin D, but these four are among the most important.  One of the best ways to naturally increase your Vitamin D levels is through exposure to sunlight. So, if you live in a region of the country where there is sufficient sunshine year round, it would be a good idea to spend some time outside most days — but don’t overdo it, sunburn is harmful. If you live in a far northern or far southern lattitudes, in a country where there is less sunshine, then vitamin D supplementation is necessary, especially as one ages.

HGH, How Does It Work?

Human Growth Hormone is a naturally occurring substance within the body. As regulated by the endocrine system, this hormone plays a major role during puberty and development. One may ask how does HGH work and how can it be applied as an anti aging, weight loss or performance enhancement supplement. Understanding its many functions on the body can shed light on such inquiries.

The general effect of growth hormone on the human body is described as anabolic or a form of building up tissues. This is evident especially during periods of growth spurt particularly in puberty. The height increase during these stages is attributed to this hormone. There are several target sites within various organs and tissues in which growth hormone can attach to and subsequently stimulate to speed up development. The most notable mechanism can be observed with the liver. HGH stimulates the release of Insulin growth Factors from the liver and these in turn stimulate bone growth and muscle development.

Aside from this critical role in height growth, HGH also serves various other purposes in the developing body. HGH increases lean muscle mass and stimulated protein synthesis in metabolism. The growth factors also help to increase the size of many bodily organs. Furthermore, the role of HGH extends to immunity stabilization and promoting overall homeostatic balance.

When a person reaches 25, HGH production begins to decline. Some believe that this is the initial body signal for aging. This has led to the conclusion that improved HGH levels past the early and mid 20s helps to hold back the signs of aging and may continue to promote growth and renewal within the cells. Additionally, the role that HGH plays in metabolism and lipolysis or fat burning for energy has led to its use for weight loss and athletic performance.

The best HGH supplements available all promise these remarkable effects. By knowing the answer to questions like how does HGH work, we can gain a deeper insight into the workings of this hormone and how it can affect the human body.

Juicing for your Little Ones

Editor’s Comment:  Without a doubt, vegetables and fruits are nature’s wonder foods, foods that provide an abundance of vitamins, minerals and fiber. It’s too bad most of us, adults and children, don’t eat enough of them. The following article, focusing on children, has been kindly contributed by a visitor to this website and suggests a way to overcome the common aversion to eating our veggies.
__________________________

It is especially hard to get children to eat their vegetables. They are more tolerant to fruits but with vegetables it is an entirely different story. Children just hate vegetables and would do anything possible to stay away from them. Well, with juicing you can say goodbye to that problem. It will be a lot easier to get your children to drink vegetable juice than eat raw or cooked vegetables. This will make a very big difference when it comes to their health. If you do not already have one, perhaps it is now time to acquire a juicer to be able to start juicing for your children’s good health.

You will never run out of good ideas for fruit and vegetable juices for your children because there are numerous recipes available online. You can even make your own homemade juice recipe or have the children help you. With juicing you can be sure that your children are getting the vitamins, minerals and nutrients their body needs. You will also have a very good opportunity to teach your children how to follow juicing recipes correctly.

Children who are between 4 and 8 years of age should be introduced slowly to juicing. Their juices should be diluted with water. A good way to start is by giving them 60ml of juice diluted with 60ml of water. You can slowly increase the amount as the children get old. You can increase the amount of juice and decrease the amount of water once they get older. Pears can be very great fruits to start with since they are relatively mild.

Remember that potent juice recipes may be too much for children. It is better to mix vegetables with fruits since pure vegetable juice may be too much for them. Make sure that the final color of the juice you make is appealing. They will not like juices which look muddy brown.
